Observing Calf

I watched a mother and her calf swimming in the inlet on Mother’s Day. Then from across the inlet another dolphin swam over and strand fed with the mother, while the calf observed in the background. I didn’t see him at the time, but he is learning by observing.

Dolphin Return

It was great to see the dolphin swimming in Captain Sam’s Inlet today. There were several dolphin, including a young calf enjoying the nice weather. There was a little strand feeding going on but most of the time, just a lone dolphin chasing the fish.

Resting Tricolored Heron

This young heron perched on the tree in the marsh behind our house. They have been around more frequently when the tide is going out, looking for fish. They can wade in the mud and see into the water to churn up food with their long toes.

Osprey Having Lunch

We watched this Osprey eating his lunch, which was a mullet he caught in the marsh behind our house. He sat in the pine tree for several hours feasting on the fish.

Great Blue Heron Chicks Waiting for Lunch

Two Great Blue Heron chicks were sitting in their nests waiting for their mother to bring them lunch. They are starting to stand up and move about, flap their wings and try to get grounded. They are very curious about the mating birds below them.

Nasturtium Macro

More practice with the macro lens on a Nasturtium plant which was waiting for warmer weather to go to the garden for planting.

Lemon Tree Bloom

A macro shot of the lemon tree plant with it’s blossoms. I wish I could post the beautiful scent! Hoping that Page doesn’t blow all the little lemons off when he is using his power blower to clean the deck. Only had 2 limes that survived the blower last year!

Wood Stork Greeting

Spotted a couple of wood storks in a tree over the marsh. He gave me a grand hello! They are so ugly they are beautiful!

Fiscal Cliff

Like the current fiscal cliff, the pelican too are undecided which way to look–three forward and three backward! A rainy cold November and not much is getting done!

Blue Eyes

My grandson is growing up so fast. Now almost 5 months old and I just can’t put the camera down. Such a beautiful subject and what a wonderful experience. I am loving being a grandma and the dolphin and birds will just have to wait!
